Once the wastewater has been pre-treated, it is then passed through a series of tanks where chemicals are added to help break down any organic matter and reduce the concentration of salt. After these initial stages, the wastewater is then passed through a reverse osmosis system which uses semipermeable membranes to filter out even smaller particles and impurities, including dissolved salts. The resulting treated water can then be reused for various purposes such as cooling systems, toilet flushing or even drinking water supply after additional purification steps.
